Celebration.

Had a real nice study session today at Barnes & Noble. Bought a book by one of my favorite authors: Tiffanie Debartolo. I am so tempted to start reading it, but I know if I do I will seriously stay up all night wanting to finish it. I also purchased a really neat book bag, which has a painting by Blanca Santander on it. I am a big fan of work, so of course I could not pass up the opportunity.
The painting on the bag is known as "Mother Earth and The Moon". The images and colors she incorporates into her paintings are rooted in her Hispanic Heritage. Which brings us to... National Hispanic Heritage Month. Yay!

A little 411/brought to you by Google.
Hispanic Heritage Month is the period to recognize the contributions of Hispanic Americans to the United States and to celebrate Hispanic heritage and culture. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988 on the approval of Public Law 100-402.

"September 15 was chosen as the starting point for the celebration because it is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. They all declared independence in 1821. In addition, Mexico, Chile and Belize celebrate their independence days on September 16, September 18 and September 21, respectively." [1] Public Law 100-402 authorizes and requests the President to issue an annual proclamation designating September 15 through October 15, as "Hispanic Heritage Month".

Here are a few more pieces done by Blanca Santander. Beautiful, beautiful work!

Hey Daliella, I'm Blanca.
Makes me happy when young people like you enjoy my work.
I really like what you wrote about Heritage Month.
All people need to know their history and share with others.

With Love, Light and Peace,
Blanca Santander
